Prof. [Dr.] M.K Ramesh, Professor of Law, NLSIU

He joined National Law School of India University as Assistant Professor of Law (Senior) (June1992) He was Chairman of the Post Graduate and Doctoral Council at the Law School, (2004-2005) and (May 2006 - June 2009). He holds the Professorial Chair on Urban Poor and the Law, instituted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India. In 2009, He established the “Commons Cell” in the Law School to develop Indian Jurisprudence on the subject. He also established the Centre for Environmental Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), in 1997. He has published over 30 articles and contributed chapters to five books as well. He visited U.S.A under the International Visitors Programme (1994) and the U.K under the Faculty Exchange Programme. (1996) He was a Visiting Faculty at Dalhousie Law School, Canada (1999). He was Senior Fulbright Fellow in the U.S. during 2005-06. He was a visiting professor at KTH, Stockholm (Feb, March, 2010 and Sept. 2011) and Law Faculty, Zurich (May, 2010). He was awarded “Environmental Law Fellow, 2006” by the Environmental Law Institute, Washington DC, U.S.A. He is, currently, a member of the National Biodiversity Authority - the first, non-official, expert member from the discipline of Law. He has assisted State and Central Governments in the drafting of several Environment-related laws. He has served as a Member of the Steering Committee for Environment and Forests, that was engaged in preparing the XII Plan Document, for the Planning Commission, Government of India. As a member, he is serving the Ethics Committee of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

 

Prof. [Dr.] Sairam Bhat, Professor of Law and Coordinator, CEERA-NLSIU 

Prof. Bhat, pursued LL.M, and Ph.D from the Department of Law, University of Mysore. He was awarded the ‘Young India Environmental Law Fellowship’ and served as Adjunct Faculty at Golden Gate University, California, USA, during the fall, 2003. He is a Fulbright-Nehru Fellow, 2010. He has held various positions ‘Visiting Researcher’ at the Georgetown University, Law Centre Washington DC, Linnaeus-Palme Academic Exchange Fellow at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, He was the ‘Editor’ of Kare Law Journal in 2005 and 2006. His publications include: Co-Authored: SAIRAM BHAT ‘Environmental Law for Law Practitioners’, CEERA, NLSIU [2002], SAIRAM BHAT: Law Relating to Business Contracts in India, SAGE, India 2009; SAIRAM BHAT; Natural Resources Conservation Law, SAGE [2010]; SAIRAM BHAT; Right to Information, Eastern Book House, 2012. He started the NLSIU Book Series under which he has published books titled, Contracts, Agreements and Public Policy [NLSIU Book Series -1], Energy Law and Policy in India [NLSIU Book Series-2], Right to Information and Good Governance [NLSIU Books Series-3]. He is also the Chief Editor of the Journal on Environmental Law, Policy and Development and Journal of Law and Public Policy, published by NLSIU. He is also the Chief Editor of the IN LAW magazine and the March of Environmental Law, published by NLSIU. He is the Coordinator of the Centre for Environmental Law, Education, Research and Advocacy [CEERA] and the Environmental Law Clinic. His areas of interest are Environmental Law, Law of Contracts, PPP, Energy Law and Right to Information.

Ms. Madhubanti Sadhya, Teaching Associate, NLSIU 

Ms. Madhubanti Sadhya has graduated in law from the University of Calcutta. She holds an LL.M. degree from National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. She is presently enrolled as a doctoral scholar at NUJS. At NUJS she was engaged in research positions working in the field of medical laws and child rights laws and has also served as a faculty member for Post Graduate Diploma Courses and guest lecturer to undergraduate students. She has also worked as an Independent Legal Consultant to UNICEF and other organizations in the development sector. She is presently engaged as a Teaching Associate at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru and is working on the Chemical Waste Project granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

 

 Mr. Rohith Kamath, Consultant, CEERA-MEA Project, NLSIU 

Rohith is an Advocate and Associate Company Secretary with over 4 years of Experience and interest in matters pertaining to Corporate Law, Start-Up Strategic Advisory and Private Equity Investments. Qualified in UGC (NET) and KSET, he is pursuing his PH. D. at the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru on Contracts in the Power Sector. His publications include a co-authored Book ‘Health Care in India’, book published by Bloomsbury in 2016.

Mr. Raghav Parthasarathy, Teaching Associate, NLSIU

Raghav Parthasarathy is Teaching Associate and a Practising Advocate. Prior to joining the Centre, he worked as a Judicial and Research Assistant at the High Court of Karnataka. He is also a practising Advocate in High Court, Civil Courts and other Tribunals. Raghav completed his Masters in Energy Laws from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Deharadun. Graduated with BBA, LL.B, from J S S Law College, Mysuru. His areas of interest include Property and Real estate Laws, Intellectual Property Laws, Electricity Laws and Environment Laws among others.

Mr. Vikas Gahlot, Teaching Associate, NLSIU

Mr. Vikas Gahlot is an alumnus of Hansraj College, University of Delhi from where he holds a B.Sc. degree. He has done LL.B from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi from 2014-17. He completed his LL.M from National Law University Jodhpur with specialisation in Intellectual Property Law in the year 2017-18. His dissertation was on the topic "Justness of Intellectual Property Laws on the touchstone of Western and Indian Philosophy". He is UGC-NET qualified and is currently working as a Teaching Associate at CEERA, NLSIU. His areas of interest include Jurisprudence, Environmental Law, Intellectual Property Law and Contract Law. He is currently working on the Project granted by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India for Strengthening Contract Law and Ease of Doing Business in India.

Ms. Geethanjali. K. V, Legal Associate, CEERA.

Ms. Geethanjali completed her B.B.A. LL.B from Seshadripuram Law College, Karnataka State Law University (2015); LL.M., University Law College, Bangalore University (2019); Post-Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights Laws, National Law School of India University (2017). She has experience in liaising with International NGOs and various Government bodies for protection and conservation of a part of the Himalayan eco-system in 2016. She was previously a Law clerk and research assistant at the High Court of Karnataka from 2017-2018. She joined CEERA as Legal associate in September, 2019. Her areas of interest include intellectual property rights laws, environmental law, corporate and commercial laws.

 

Ms Lianne D'Souza, Research Fellow, CEERA.

Lianne D'Souza has completed her B.A. LL.B from School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), 2020. Her areas of interest include environmental law, energy law and international trade law. Prior to joining CEERA, she has worked as an intern on the Chemical and Hazardous Waste Management project granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and the Urban Law and Governance project granted by the Government of Karnataka. Her dissertation was an Analysis on Article XX of the GATT 1994: Reconciling the Conflict between Trade Liberalisation and Environmental Sustainability. She is currently engaged as a Research Fellow at CEERA.
